TIME TRIAL

4th Clint Gibson & Mike Brown
33rd Mark Corbett & Juan Mohr - Penalty for arriving late

The Time Trial was quite good for BAT with 2 BATS in the top 8 overall and both Henry Kirsten and Nick Harper running faster times than Atang who is leading Specials.

MAIN RACE

The main race was 3 laps of about 140 km, which required a bit of calculation on fuelling. Most of the time a BAT is not required to go more than 250 km on a tank. If you go 2 laps it’s 280 km. Henry decided he would stop and splash and dash on the first lap as he calculated with his engine choice he would not make it. Nick and Clint both can make 280 km as the Audi V8 is not as thirsty as it sounds. Mark has a new large bladder tank so the fuel was not a problem for him.

After Lap 1 of a lot of switching places trying to find the route in one specific section Atang was in front. Henry was 2nd which he lost to Nick as he went for his splash and dash and Mark was 3rd BAT and 5th overall Special, after starting 33rd due to a penalty for arriving late. Clint got lost and was so far behind he pulled out of the race. After the 2nd Lap Atang was still in front and Nick was 2nd and that’s how it stayed until the end. Mark retired with a CV / side shaft problem and Henry had a problem with his steering rack mounts breaking and also had a DNF.

After 4 races in 2004 BAT has achieved the following:

2nd, 3rd and 4th in Class A and Specials
1st Places – One
2nd Places – Four
3rd Places – Two

Making BAT the most successful Special by far!
