Sugarbelt 400
Brandon
and Achim qualified 2nd in the brand new built V6 BAT with
6 speed sequential gearbox.
They
started off 8 seconds behind Shameer and after 10km they both
slid off the road into the sugar cane and collided with spectator
vehicle.
Brandon managed to get going again and shortly after that
caught and passed Hannes Grobler and Richard Leeke in the
Nissan who also failed to move over when the screamer was
activated. They then proceeded to catch up to the Ford who
also failed to acknowledge the screamer and they nerfed the
Ford coming into a t-junction causing the car to stall and
lost valuable time. They then came to the first road crossing
with a healthy lead and were pulled over for yellow light
infringement and had to make a plan and continue the race.
Unfortunately
this happened at every light check, this made the day very
long and frustrating qand managed to finish 4th in Class A,
only to find out the next day that they had been excluded
due to Yellow light infringement and are in the process of
protesting the results and waiting for the outcome.
The weekend
came to a tragic ending when a close friend and competitor
Mike Stangl died when the Jimco he was navigating in rolled
down a mountain side and whilst trying to climb out the car
it began rolling again, trapping him under the vehicle.
Well
done to Mark Corbett, Clint Gibson and Nick Harper for their
clean runs and for the outstanding results!
