Lichtenburg
200km Regional Off road Race
53 Cars,
bikes and quads competed in this Regional Event held at the
Lichtenburg Motor Club on Saturday 14th February 2004. It
was an impressive turn out considering rain storms were threatening
all week long.
There
was no Prologue due to it being a one day event and the organisers
were pressed for time. Brandon Harcus and Achim Bergmann (#A1)
2003 V6 BAT were seeded 1st as Brandon is the reigning Class
A Champion. Team mates Philip Vosloo and Evan Hutchison (#A21)
2004 V6 BAT were starting from the back of the line as they
are new comers to the sport and did not have any previous
times to go by.
Danie
Marais and Andrew Utterson (#A10) 2002 V6 BAT who finished
off the 2003 Season in 10th place started in 26th place.
The race
consisted of 2 laps of 112km each and the route was flat and
fast. Towards the end of the 1st lap it began to rain. This
slowed the race down quite a bit and by the time the cars
were into the second lap it was pouring down heavily. Brandon
and Achim increased their gap between themselves and the Production
vehicle in 2nd place. Philip and Evan kept a consistent pace
and worked their way through the line of cars ahead with ease.
Andrew
and Danie were sharing the drive with Andrew completing the
first lap. Now with Danie is the driver’s seat they
began their second lap. They came across a competitor who
had broken down in the thick mud and decided to stop and help
them out. By doing so, they ripped the rear end of their BAT
right off and got stuck themselves.
Covered in mud from head to toe, Brandon and Achim crossed
the finished line taking 1st place overall and 1st in Class
A. Philip and Evan had an extremely good day of racing too
and finished 2nd in Class A which was a surprise to all as
this was their maiden run.
